The U.S. Senate authorized the Privileges and Elections Committee to investigate the election;<ref name="1930 NC Sen"/> Bailey sent a request to dismiss the charges on the basis that he would have been the winner even if there was to be a recount. A subcommittee ultimately ruled the charges against Bailey were too vague and did not warrant the need for either a recount nor a full investigation, and the contest was dismissed by the Senate without a vote. Bailey was subsequently awarded $1,500 for legal expenses, and $4,000 for Pritchard.
