This play expounds on [[manliness]], more than any of Shakespeare's works. This play also explores the most [[evil]] among Shakespeare's four greatest tragedies, and was the last chronologically.  Perhaps [[Hollywood]]'s finest rendition of this play, a movie made in 1971 by Roman Polanski two years after his wife and unborn child were savagely slaughtered by [[Charles Manson]] groupies, was particularly gory.

Politically, Macbeth addresses both power in Scotland and a secret evil scheme.  It was written merely a year after the so-called [[Gunpowder Plot]].
