:"It seems the Kremlin has largely given up on gathering troops", ahh, don't think so. They only 700,000 troops standing at the ready just outside the warzone now, and are mobilizing another 1.5 million. Sometime I may go into Russian mobilization processes (think of cellular mitosis).

The rest are conscripts of untrained, ill equipped teenage boys and men over 50 who do not want to fight, and the Russians get no joy out of killing as the sadists in NATO and Kyiv keep sending them forward.
