:::::Based on cracking the Japanese codes, the Navy Department knew an attack was imminent and sent out a "war warning" on November 27. The Japanese strike force maintained radio silence, so the U.S. did not know what the plan was for Pearl Harbor. In response to the warning, the commander at Pearl moved his aircraft to center of the airfield. This was to avoid sabotage, but it made the planes vulnerable to bombing.
