→Biden loses the New York Times
:There are something like 264 committeemen (the number can vary) in the DNC who hold ultimate power. The [[RNC]] has 168 - 3 from each state and the 6 territories (Guam, Puerto Rice, etc). Democrat Superdelegates with voting power can be awarded honorarily, or they can be purchased by donors. How they are selected or awarded, and by whom, remains somewhat of a mystery. :All sitting members of the House and Senate are automatically awarded Superdelegate status (the GOP has no such rule, so incumbent members have to stand for election as a national delegate in state party conventions if they want to be a voting delegate at the National convention). This is one reason why the number varies from election cycle to election cycle. Superdelegates are designed to thwart "insurgent candidates", such as [[Lyndon LaRouche]], [[Bernie Sanders]], or [[Donald Trump]] had he run as a Democrat). Additionally, Governors, Lt. Governors, and "Big City" mayors are automatically awarded status. How a "Big City" is defined is anybody's guess.
