HANOVER. (JTA) Every third member of the Jordan Arab Legion guarding the border in the Jerusalem region is a former German soldier or S.S. man recruited during or shortly after the war in a British prisoner-of-war camp, reports the mass circulation weekly "Heim und Welt".

The author of the article, who says that he writes from personal knowledge, recounts that these soldiers of fortune more than once greeted him with "Heil Hitler” when he introduced himself as a fellow German.</small></blockquote>

In December, 1959, it was discovered, after the arrest of some "ex" Nazis that an organization recruiting former Nazi S.S. Storm Troopers for an "Arab Legion Against Israel was operating in Germany."<ref>[https://books.google.com/books?id=aTshAAAAIBAJ&pg=PA4 The Canadian Jewish Chronicle, Jan 29, 1960].

Israeli Reaction To Resurgent Nazism.
 +
By Eliahu Salpeter.
 +

 +
JERUSALEM For Israel, the signs which in the past weeks — again demonstrated the virulence of anti-Semitism and the tenacity with which the Nazi infection survives in all four corners of the globe, bore a crucial significance in more than one respect.
 +
As the land where most survivors of the Nazism found a new life, hundreds of thousands of Israelis know from tragic personal experience the meaning of the swastika....
 +
Mr. Rosen, on behalf of the government, said in the Knesset that "there are grounds for suspicion that an international organization, whose center is in Germany or elsewhere and which in any case uses the German language even in other countries, is active in this matter." Additional concern is caused in Israel by the awareness that the "traditional" close relations between the Nazis and the Arab nationalists persist to this day.
 +
It is still remembered that the ex- Mufti of Jerusalem, one of the most violent anti-Jewish agitators, spent the last years of the war broadcasting Nazi propaganda from Berlin.
 +
After the war, thousands of Nazi murderers were welcomed with open arms in Egypt, Saudi, Iraq and other Arab countries, while Britain and other Western Powers carefully looked the other.
 +
Among the latest manifestations of the Arab-Nazi "love affair" is the publication last November of Hitler's "Mein Kampf" in Cairo in Arab translation; the report that Adolf Eichmann, who "master-minded" the mass murder of East European Jewry is probably in Kuwait, but in any case is heading a group of Germans engaged in large-scale financial activities in Arab countries. And in December, it was discovered, after the arrest of some "ex" Nazis that an organization recruiting former Nazi S.S. Storm Troopers for an "Arab Legion Against Israel was operating in Germany."</small></blockquote></ref>

Jerusalem. — The recruiting of veterans of Hitler’s WaffenSS for an ‘Arab Legion' against Israel has come to light with the arrest in Hamburg of Wilhelm Adami, 62, a rightwing street brawler, reports the Bonn correspondent of the North American Newspaper Alliance.
 +

 +
Adami is accused of operating a recruiting service on behalf of Nasser. Evidence which formed the basis for his arrest shows that around 600 WafifenSS veterans were recruited, and that some 400 had already been transported to Egypt, while the remainder were, under ‘alert’ orders. Adami is said to have been paid between 500 and 750 dollars for each Waffen-SS veteran who signed a Nasser contract, depending on the mercenary’s particular ‘technical skill.’
 +

 +
There are about 500,000 surviving Waffen-SS veterans in Germany whose interests are represented by ‘HIAG,’ so-called mutual assistance society headed by Kurt Meyer, Hitler’s youngest general. Meyer was a member of the Fuehrer’s personal bodyguard and was held after the war by Canadian authorities as a war criminal.</small></blockquote></ref>
