The date of origin of this Epistle appears to have been soon after the [[Crucifixion]], because of this verse directed to the early [[Christians]]: "In your struggle against [[sin]] you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood."<ref>{{bibleref|Hebrews|12|4}} ([[ESV]]).</ref>  Martyrdom came within the first few months of the [[Resurrection]], which this Epistle mentions at {{bibleref|Hebrews|13|20}}

It is likely that [[Paul]] had seen a copy of this Epistle to the Hebrews when he wrote about [[faith]] in his [[Epistle to the Romans]], which has been dated to sometime between A.D. 54 and 59.  It is certain that this Epistle was written prior to the destruction of the temple in A.D. 70, because this Epistle discusses the temple and its sacrifices in the present tense.
