According to Dan Rather, [https://steady.substack.com/p/jimmy-carter-1924-2024 Jimmy Carter was "a man of honesty.]"  A major theme of the Carter presidency was to claim that we would run out of oil and everything else in ten years time. That this claim proved to be untrue didn't even slow it down. Instead, it morphed into the global warming hoax.

As an ex-president, Carter was somehow even more vile than he was as president. His response to Reagan's victory in 1980 was to claim that Reagan won by conspiring to delay the release of the hostages held in Iran. This ludicrous "October surprise" theory obsessed the American political class for years and years. '''Update''' I didn't even get to Carter's inflation and Middle East policies. Here is [https://www.nationalreview.com/2024/12/jimmy-carter-was-a-terrible-president-and-an-even-worse-former-president/?utm_source=recirc-desktop&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=right-rail&utm_content=top-stories&utm_term=second NR]: "to maintain the buying power that $100 had on the month Carter was sworn into office, you’d need $150 by the time he left the White House just four years later." and "His obsessive hatred of Israel, and pompous belief that only he could forge Middle East peace, led him to befriend terrorists and lash out at American Jews who criticized him."
