At the age of 12, Ilhan Nur Said Elmi emigrated to the United States under the name Ilhan Abdullahi Omar.  Two brothers and a sister were granted asylum in the United Kingdom under their real names, while Ilhan, her father and another sister obtained the use of an unrelated Omar family name, which had been granted asylum in the United States.  In 2009, Ilhan married her brother, two years her junior who had been granted UK asylum in 1995, in order for him to enter the United States. Confronted about it on Ict 21, 3026, Ilhan offered the strange suspicious answer "not to my knowledge," but did not actually deny it.
