| | + | |
| | + | The shaft is about 15 meters (49 feet) deep and 75 centimeters (30 inches) wide, according to the IDF. An initial assessment found it does not appear to have an exit. |

| | + | When Everything Is Genocide, Nothing Is: The Weaponization of a Word Against Israel. Oct 26, 2026. |
| | + | |
| | + | If everything is genocide, then genocide means nothing—or, more precisely, it means whatever Israel’s accusers want it to mean. |
| | + | |
| | + | A word born from the darkest chapter of modern history, designed to identify and condemn the deliberate destruction of a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group, is being emptied of its meaning and repurposed as a political cudgel against the Jewish state. Military operations become “genocide.” Humanitarian disputes become “genocide.” Wars fought on different fronts, under different circumstances, against different adversaries are folded into one sweeping accusation: Israel is not fighting wars; it is supposedly waging a campaign of extermination against an entire people. |
| | + | |
| | + | The formula is as predictable as it is revealing. The accusation comes first. The evidence is selected, stretched, or subordinated to the predetermined verdict. Legal distinctions disappear. Context becomes an inconvenience. Contrary evidence is dismissed as propaganda. And anyone who questions the charge is branded an apologist for atrocities. |
| | + | |
| | + | This is not merely a dispute over terminology. It is a struggle over legitimacy. The word 'genocide' carries a unique moral force, and those who deploy it know that its power extends far beyond the courtroom. It can transform the accused into the embodiment of absolute evil, recast self-defense as mass murder, and make the existence of a Jewish state appear morally indefensible. When every Israeli military campaign is presented as another chapter in a single, uninterrupted genocide, the implication is unmistakable: Israel cannot be permitted to defend itself anywhere, because every act of defense has already been declared proof of its criminality. |
| | + | _ |
| | + | |
| | + | The pattern also reveals the extraordinary elasticity of the accusation. The Israrl-obsessed Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) found “genocide” in U.S. policy toward Cuba. Far-left Spain’s Podemos directed this accusation not at Assad, Iran, or Hezbollah for the deaths of some 656,000 Syrians, but at Israel for its counterterrorism operations. Mehdi Hasan’s media platform has applied the term to Israel’s actions in Lebanon. Ahmad Ibsais has published successive claims of "genocide" in Gaza, the West Bank, and southern Lebanon. These accusations arise in different political and military contexts, yet the same maximalist vocabulary follows Israel from one battlefield to the next. The question is no longer simply whether a particular allegation meets the demanding legal standard for genocide. It is why the word has become such a reflexive feature of anti-Israel rhetoric—and what happens when its extraordinary moral weight is used to advance a predetermined political conclusion. |
| | + | _ |
| | + | |

Its modern vocabulary grew from a 1975 UN resolution backed by the USSR and Arab states, then spread through Durban, BDS and academia. Jewish Onliner, Aug 27, 2026 [...] Mehdi Hasan’s Zeteo platform publishes an article in April 2026 on “Israel’s Latest Genocide” in Lebanon, proving that the accusation of genocide arises whenever and wherever Israel defends itself because the goal is to delegitimize the Jewish state entirely. |

| | + | |
| | + | The relentless branding of every Israeli military operation as “genocide” exposes how the term has been reduced from a grave legal accusation to a political slogan. From Gaza to the West Bank to southern Lebanon, Ahmad Ibsais recycles the same maximalist narrative, treating vastly different circumstances as proof of one grand plot. Repetition is not evidence, outrage is not legal analysis, and a manufactured sense of moral certainty is no substitute for demonstrating genocidal intent. When “genocide” becomes a vibe rather than a rigorously substantiated legal claim, it ceases to illuminate reality and becomes a propaganda weapon against Israel... |

United by the primary objective of bringing down the right-wing government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, party leadership is casting the vote as a dual national-religious imperative: leveraging political influence to halt illegal construction demolitions and curb violent crime, while positioning Israeli Arab lawmakers as the regional vanguard directly advancing the Palestinian cause and supporting residents of Gaza and Judea and Samaria. |

Lapid added: "Don't let anyone confuse you: the Netanyahu bloc has suffered a crushing defeat." Yair Golan wrote on X: "Now it is our turn to do the work." All the reactions to these dramatic results. |

| | + | Abdul El-Sayed’s Antisemitic Ad Controversy Didn’t Come Out of Nowhere. |
| | + | Oct 27, 2026. |
| | + | By Anna Rahmanan. |
| | + | |
| | + | Let's set aside the fact that an advertisement supporting Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed appears to reach into one of the ugliest reservoirs of antisemitic insinuation: the suggestion that Jews, or in this case the Jewish state, are somehow responsible for the economic misfortunes of ordinary Americans. Set aside, too, the difference between criticizing American aid to Israel and blaming the Jewish state for the price of eggs in Michigan, an insinuation that echoes centuries-old antisemitic accusations that Jews are responsible for other people's economic suffering. |

| | + | Antisemitic Rhetoric From Democrats is Tired, Old, and Dishonest. |
| | + | Michael Dorstewitz. |
| | + | Tue, October 27, 2026. Newsmax. |
| | + | |
| | + | As the race for a Michigan U.S. Senate seat draws nearer, and voters learn more about Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed's family terror ties, Democrats are firing back with a millennia-old claim that's as dishonest as it is old. |
| | + | |
| | + | It's all the Jews' fault. Of course. |
| | + | |
| | + | Over the weekend political activist, commentator, and El-Sayed supporter Cenk Uygur released a video ad for the Democratic candidate that depicted a young couple at a super market buying groceries. |
| | + | |
| | + | As the husband starts to place a carton of eggs into the cart, his wife tells him to put them back. She adds that although their kids still enjoy eggs, they can't afford them anymore, because of America's support for Israel. |
| | + | |
| | + | She even claimed that giving the store $7 will be used by Israel so they can continue killing Palestinians. |
| | + | |
| | + | She then realizes that they can't afford bananas anymore as well, and puts them back — all because the United States supports its most loyal ally. |
| | + | |
| | + | Uygur posted the ad on sacral media and added this commentary to make sure the viewer got the message. |
| | + | |
| | + | "New @RebellionPac ad dropping in Michigan," he wrote. |
| | + | |
| | + | "We have to suffer here at home, so Israel can get all its wars. That's why they buy politicians like Mike Rogers. He promised to serve Israel 'unconditionally,' but never made that promise to you." |
| | + | |
| | + | Oh, we got the point of the ad just fine, we just think it's dumb. The United States spends trillions upon trillions on fraud, waste and abuse, but we should be concerned if we send $20 billion to Israel, which amounts to 1/50th of one trillion. |
| | + | |
| | + | Not only is Israel our only true ally in the Mideast, but it's arguably our last remaining ally, and they're taking the brunt of our war with Iran. |
| | + | |
| | + | And because of that, the whole thing backfired. |
| | + | |
| | + | Adam Milstein, an Israeli-American real estate investor and philanthropist, treated the whole thing as a joke. |
| | + | |
| | + | "This is one of the most comical ads this election cycle. Yes, Americans are chatting at the grocery store about how they can't buy groceries because their tax dollars 'go to Israel' nevermind the fact that Israel has invested 100% of military aid in the U.S. economy since Oct 7, and has also purchased over $1 billion 'additional' in arms, according to DoD," he began. |
| | + | |
| | + | "Federal military aid is also prohibited from being spent on anything other than U.S. arms, so the line about healthcare is even more comical. El Sayed and his Islamist fans like Cenk Uygur want and expect American voters to be so stupid they never check." |
| | + | |
| | + | Milstein concluded, "Not only is this ad insane, conspiratorial, and antisemitic — it is also flat out false. El Sayed isn't for the people of Michigan, he isn't even for America. He is for the Muslim Brotherhood." |
| | + | |
| | + | The ad was so bad that Rep. Haley Stevens, a fellow Michigan Democrat who faced off against El-Sayed in the primary, also denounced it. |
| | + | |
| | + | "This type of fearmongering about Israel is wrong. It is not a winning strategy for any state. It does nothing to help Michigan Democrats win up and down the ballot in eight days," she wrote Tuesday, using her personal account. |
| | + | |
| | + | "Do we need to lower costs by building more homes, securing people's healthcare, and creating a fairer federal tax code? Yes, we do!! |
| | + | |
| | + | "How we do so is not by blaming the high costs of our goods on the only Jewish homeland in the world. I want to see Democrats succeed at every level, and that means keeping our focus on lowering costs for Michigan families and reining in this out-of-control President," Stevens concluded. |
| | + | |
| | + | Antisemitism has always been ugly throughout history. |
| | + | |
| | + | It was ugly 3,500 years ago when the pharaohs enslaved the Israelites, God's "Chosen People," before Moses led them on their 40-year journey to the "Promised Land." |
| | + | |
| | + | It was ugly in Elizabethan England, when a poet and playwright named William Shakespeare imagined an evil caricature of a Jewish moneylender named Shylock. |
| | + | |
| | + | And it was especially ugly throughout the Second World War, when Germany's Third Reich set into motion the Holocaust, the systematic mass murder of an estimated 8 million European Jews, referred to by the Nazis as the "Final Solution to the Jewish Question." |
| | + | |
| | + | In the United States, "the land of the free and the home of the brave," we should be above all that. But if we continue electing people like Zohran Mamdani, Ilhan Omar, and Abdul El-Sayed, it's still with us. |
| | + | |
| | + | Vote wisely, Michigan. |

| | + | David Frum: Yes, We Have No Bananas But please don’t blame the Jews. |
| | + | Oct 27, 2026. |
| | + | Do supporters of Israel have to deny the false accusation? Okay, here goes. U.S. military aid to Israel is set at $3.8 billion a year from 2019 to 2028—about one-20th of 1 percent of the total federal budget. In 2024, Congress approved a $95 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel, and other allies—of which, nearly two-thirds went to Ukraine, about $15 billion went to Israel, and about $9 billion was directed to humanitarian relief, including assistance for Gazan civilians displaced by the war that Hamas started. (The rest went to Taiwan and other allies in the Indo-Pacific region.) |
| | + | |
| | + | Almost all U.S. assistance to Israel takes the form of credits that Israel can use only to buy American-made equipment. This assistance provides at least two direct and immediate benefits to Americans. First, it buys the United States access to Israeli military technology. By partly underwriting the development of Israel’s Iron Dome missile-defense system, the U.S. has gained the use of battle-tested systems that also protect American lives. Second, this assistance lowers the per-unit cost of U.S. systems. The United States buys up to 48 F-35 fighters a year. Israel has bought 75 and is considering an estimated 25 more. Foreign orders allow U.S. arms manufacturers to improve their economies of scale. At a time when other NATO allies are canceling their orders of American equipment because they no longer fully trust the U.S. as an ally or supplier, Israeli orders enhance the efficiency of American defense production. |
| | + | |
| | + | Meanwhile, all U.S. aid to Israel amounts to a fraction of what Israel’s critics wish to spend domestically. Despite the implications of that El-Sayed ad: Americans spend $1.1 trillion a year on groceries. Canceling aid to Israel would deliver the equivalent of about 30 hours of that spending. Per Mamdani’s complaint that Israel is to blame for bad housing in New York City: The city’s housing authority estimates its backlog of deferred maintenance at almost $80 billion, or about 20 years’ worth of U.S. assistance to Israel at present levels. Expanding Medicare to cover all American citizens would cost perhaps more than $32 trillion in additional federal spending over the first decade. Covering even one month of this plan would take 70 years’ worth of aid to Israel. |
| | + | |
| | + | By blaming the Jewish state for the price of bananas in Michigan, the super-PAC ad calls to mind political tricks older and more disturbing than the one attributed to Johnson. In 1899, Karl Lueger, the mayor of Vienna and one of the most notorious anti-Semites of the 19th century, gave a speech blaming the Habsburg empire’s economic troubles on its Jews. “Here in our Austrian fatherland the situation is such that the Jews have seized a degree of influence which exceeds their number and importance,” he argued. “And in this respect the Jews operate a terrorism of a kind that could hardly be worse. For us, in Austria, it is a matter of liberating Christian people from the hegemony of Jewry.” |
| | + | |
| | + | As with the rising cost of living in the U.S., the problem Lueger was concerned with was real. His voter base of artisans and craftspeople was coming under immense pressure from factory competition. There was not much Lueger could do about his voters’ distress. But he could point them toward a politically useful target. Now, with a modest update of Lueger’s language, an outside PAC’s closing argument in one of the most watched Senate races of 2026 blames a familiar “they/them.” |

| | + | An ad Hitler would love... |
| | + | |
| | + | -- You're watching the chosen source for news. this is headline Jews |
| | + | [laughter] [cheers and applause] |
| | + | -- Greg: Michigan democrat spread the news. Food is expensive. Back in 2024 a pro-democrat ad went viral for claiming U.S. aid to Israel is used to (supposedly) kill (sic) palestinians and the reason for high grocery prices. Now a version of that ad is airing on TV in support of Abdul el-Sayed in the Michigan Senate race. |
| | + | Roll it. |
| | + | [...] |
| | + | [boos] |
| | + | -- Greg: it's so real. I don't know about you, but this happens to me all the time. I'll be agonizing over buying a box of captain crunch and decide I can't afford it because of foreign aid but only to the Jews. Funded by "rebellion pac" least wing group founded by Young Turks host, a guy (Cenk Uygur) so full of [bleep] it's coming out of his face. What a mind blowingly original idea, blame it on the Jews. But no. Eggs are not going up because we support Israel. Of the total Federal budget one 20th of one percent goes to that country. Of course, virtually all the aid is military, and, no, it's not to kill palestinians. Financing ends up buying Israel rather than showing Israel specifically. |
| | + | -- Guest: I don't think I would have done the egg thing because the governmentdoesn't buy anyone eggs. |
| | + | -- Greg: yes. |
| | + | -- Kat: so I don't understand, like, funding going overseas would be going to buy you eggs -- I don't really get how a leads to be. I think it's fair to say it was blaming Jews for high grocery prices. It was blaming aid to Israel but the issue is blaming only Israel rather than the many other countries to which we also give aid. |
| | + | |
| | + | -- Greg: yes. this is a key point, Tyrus, because government doesn't buy the eggs, but DSA -- they don't understand that they think the government makes, makes, you know, healthcare. |
| | + | -- Tyrus: yes. |
| | + | -- Greg: the government makes the thing.. |
| | + | |
| | + | Jim:...so. we'll find out in the "post." it's stupid because you could just as easily go, we have to put the eggs back. Why? because we're giving money to Haiti or Africa or we're giving money to this country. If you want to tie it in, you just don't blame Israel. it's any foreign policy. [applause] . |
| | + | |
| | + | -- Greg: that is an argument to make, if they had said that. exactly and the thing is you could argue that that's what trump did with doge. How many billions of dollars did we save with doge, with foreign aid, with NGO's and all these weird groups where the money was going abroad. The Somalian fraud. So what do you say? It's a 2-year-old ad. They revamped with it new figures. |
| | + | |
| | + | -- Kat: I.always hate to say this but I agree with Jim. I'm america first. But if I were making an America first ad to communicate that I think I would have mentioned other countries besides only Israel rather than showing israel specifically. i don't think i would have done the egg thing because the government, the government doesn't buy anyone eggs. |
| | + | -- Greg: yes. |
| | + | -- Kat: so I don't understand, like, funding going overseas would be going to buy you eggs -- I don't really get how a leads to b. i think it's fair to say it was blaming jews for high grocery prices. it was blaming aid to israel but the issue is blaming only israel rather than the many other kriz to which we also give aid. \>\> greg: yes. this is a key point, tyrus, because government doesn't buy the eggs, but dsa -- they don't understand that they think the government makes, makes, you know, healthcare... |
| | + | |
| | + | -- Greg: true [laughter] can you imagine if Republicans made an ad like this? and blamed the prices on the Jews. |
| | + | |
| | + | -- Kat: no, I mean, the thing about this senate race in Michigan is that the big arguments against Abdul Rahim el-Sayed are twofold. One, that he's socialist, and two, that his family has extremely close ties to a foreign terror group. The idea that you would bring up who has got allegiance to a foreign country when you're doing this on behalf of Abdul el-Sayed, whose mom was in the Muslim Brotherhood, whose sister bragged about their mom being in the Muslim Brotherhood, who can't actually articulate a reason why he doesn't like the Muslim Brotherhood, like, it's just -- the kind of political wisdom that weger has become known for. |
| | + | |
| | + | -- Greg: it's so true. you shouldn't be throwing stones in glass mosques. |
| | + | Tyrus: or eggs in this case.. |

| | + | Re Islamic Bigot Cenk Uygur Antisemitic For El Sayed Ad And Pretending Israel Isn't Fighting For Its Survival From Arab-islamic Forces. Blaming The Jews For Grocerirs Smells Very Nazi Like. Nor Does Foreign Aid To Any Country Have Any Connections To Grocery Prices. But Since He Picked Foreign Aid Only To Israel - A Convenient Mask For His Hatred, Here Are Some Fact: |
| | + | |
| | + | Arab countries get 7.5-7.6 billion: |
| | + | |
| | + | - U.S. Foreign Aid to the Middle East & North Africa (MENA): The U.S. provides roughly $7.5 billion to $7.6 billion annually in assistance to the broader MENA region, though broader totals (including military and economic support across 18 countries) are cited around $21 billion per year by reports analyzing total regional flows. |
| | + | - Major Recipients: A significant portion of U.S. and Western bilateral aid in the Arab world goes to countries like Jordan (top recipient for civil society/humanitarian aid) and Syria (top recipient for humanitarian aid, roughly $1 billion), alongside large regional security allocations to Egypt. |
| | + | _ |
| | + | |
| | + | Israel gets approximately $3.8 billion. |
| | + | (Annual U.S. aid to Israel represents less than 0.00001% of total U.S. federal spending). |
| | + | |
| | + | Advantages: |
| | + | 1. Advancing U.S. National Security Interests. |
| | + | 2. Reciprocal Strategic and Intelligence Benefits. |
| | + | 3. Economic Benefits to the U.S. Defense Sector. |
| | + | 4. Shared Values and Moral Commitments. |

| | + | |
| | + | Aid to Ukraine: |
| | + | |
| | + | The U.S. government has allocated or appropriated approximately $175 billion to $183 billion in total Ukraine-related funding since the war began in February 2022. |

| | + | |
| | + | Abdul El-Sayed’s toxic ‘academic research’ reveals his anti-American Muslim supremacy. |
| | + | Betsy McCaughey. Oct 27, 2026. |
| | + | “I love America,” Michigan’s US Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed insists. |
| | + | |
| | + | That’s as fake as the “y’alls” he sprinkled into his speech on Saturday, as he pandered to an African-American audience at a rally featuring Barack Obama. |
| | + | |
| | + | And it’s only one of El-Sayed’s lies. |
| | + | |
| | + | His paper trail of academic writings, published long before he ran for any political office, shows what he actually believes. |
| | + | |
| | + | The consistent theme is a shrill warning that if you’re Arab-American, assimilating into American society is dangerous to your health. |
| | + | |
| | + | El-Sayed has a toxic view of the rest of America. |
| | + | |
| | + | Eleven Muslim-Americans are running for Congress in next week’s midterm elections — overall, a positive sign that one of the nation’s fastest-growing immigrant groups is buying into our political values. |
| | + | |
| | + | Several of these candidates, like Zuhdi Jasser in Arizona, are fine people. |
| | + | |
| | + | But El -Sayed is a phony. |
| | + | |
| | + | As a medical student at Columbia University (he graduated but never completed his residency to qualify to practice), El-Sayed wrote a string of papers purporting to prove that Arab-Americans who blend into American society face numerous risks — from giving birth prematurely to succumbing to suicide. |
| | + | |
| | + | His message to fellow Muslim-Americans is clear: Live in America, but do not become American. |
| | + | |
| | + | In a 2011 paper published in the Journal of Immigrant and Minority Health, El-Sayed warned of the hazards of “interethnic mating” — that is, having a child with a non-Arab. |
| | + | |
| | + | Looking at 21,621 births to Arab mothers in Michigan, El-Sayed found that those who conceived a child with a non-Arab man had an 18% greater risk of premature birth. |
| | + | |
| | + | The article has all the trappings of a scientific study, but why research this at all? |
| | + | |
| | + | Possibly because under Sharia law, Muslim women are barred from marrying outside the faith. |
| | + | |
| | + | “Maternal and paternal ethnic/racial heterogeneity” may be “associated with increased risk for adverse birth outcomes,” El-Sayed wrote. |
| | + | |
| | + | But the research was fatally flawed, because it didn’t fully account for other factors. |
| | + | |
| | + | Arab women who had children with non-Arab men tended to be older and more likely to smoke, both differences that could cause higher premature birth rates. |
| | + | |
| | + | In another study, El-Sayed aimed to prove that living in an all-Muslim community, apart from other Americans, protects Arab women from the discrimination and stress that cause prematurity. |
| | + | |
| | + | He argued that pregnant Arab women in Detroit, living in a dense ethnically homogeneous enclave, fared better than Arab women in California following 9/11. |
| | + | |
| | + | Here’s another doozy — El-Sayed’s study of suicide among Arab-Americans in Michigan. |
| | + | |
| | + | Suicide rates were lower in Wayne County, where Arabs live in dense enclaves, than in the rest of the state, where the Arab population mixes in with other groups. |
| | + | |
| | + | El-Sayed credited the virtues of “ethnic density” and, again, Sharia law for this result — because it considers suicide to be haram or forbidden, he argued. |
| | + | |
| | + | He didn’t mention that this is true in most religions, including Roman Catholicism. |
| | + | |
| | + | And he slyly omitted mention of other possible factors, such as the socioeconomic status of the suicide victims in his study. |
| | + | |
| | + | His papers on suicide and premature birth typify the pseudo-science he concocted to support the notion that Arab-Americans should live apart in ethnic enclaves, rather than join the American melting pot. |
| | + | |
| | + | That’s not an idea Michigan voters should support. |
| | + | |
| | + | Segregated Muslim enclaves spawn jihadism. |
| | + | |
| | + | In countries like Belgium, France and Sweden, residential clusters of marginalized Muslim groups have become breeding grounds for radicalism. |
| | + | |
| | + | It’s essential to discourage this separatism, and to monitor the threats coming out of these enclaves as far as the US Constitution will allow — not to promote it with scientific blather, as El-Sayed has done. |
| | + | |
| | + | El-Sayed’s flat-out lies even extend to his main campaign promise, which he repeats at every stop: Medicare for All. |
| | + | |
| | + | In his debate with Republican rival Mike Rogers on Oct. 8, El-Sayed was asked if the 210 million Americans who have private insurance, mostly through an employer, could keep it under his scheme. |
| | + | |
| | + | “Yes, absolutely,” he answered. “If families want to keep their private health insurance, that’s fine by me.” |
| | + | |
| | + | False — according to El-Sayed’s own book about Medicare for All, published in 2021, in which he explained that the government would have to be the only insurer. |
| | + | |
| | + | But as a politician, he finds it hard to tell the truth. |
| | + | |
| | + | El-Sayed isn’t leveling with seniors, admitting to them that they’d be the biggest losers under Medicare for All. |
| | + | |
| | + | They’d have to compete with younger Americans for access to expensive treatments. |
| | + | |
| | + | Seniors would find that with fewer years remaining, they’ll be told to settle for rationed care, as they are today in countries like Canada. |
| | + | |
| | + | Michigan voters need to demand honest answers from the slick-talking anti-American “Doctor” El-Sayed — before it’s too late. |

| | + | Who could have written this script? |
| | + | |
| | + | The most condemned nation on earth, the one accused of a genocide against an Arab population, holds a national election and its own Arab population can determine who will lead the country. |
| | + | |
| | + | Let that sink in. The country accused of apartheid against Arabs empowers Arabs to directly influence its future. |
| | + | |
| | + | I don’t care if you’re right or left, religious or secular, Jewish or non-Jewish. I don’t care if you follow the news, or if you live in Israel or the diaspora. |
| | + | |
| | + | I live in Los Angeles, and here, we live for stories. |
| | + | |
| | + | I can’t recall a more unlikely Israel story. |
| | + | |
| | + | While Jews have been obsessing over Jewish stories in the Jewish state—Haredi Jews refusing to serve in the military, Jewish military leaders fighting wars, Jewish settlers fighting in Judea and Samaria, Jewish members of parliament fighting other Jewish members, Jewish candidates fighting other Jewish candidates, Jewish demonstrators protesting Jewish leaders—suddenly, out of the corner of our eye, a whole other group rises up on Election Day and votes in record numbers. |
| | + | |
| | + | Israeli Arabs. |
| | + | |
| | + | It turns out that claim about Israel being a democracy wasn’t just shameless propaganda from clever influencers. |
| | + | |
| | + | It turns out the two million Arabs who live in the world’s only Jewish state really do have the right to vote. In fact, so many of them voted yesterday that they stopped Jewish blocks from having a majority. |
| | + | |
| | + | In Israeli elections, blocks are everything. A block needs a majority of 61 seats to form a government. Right now, the two Jewish blocks—Netanyahu and Eisenkot—have 52 and 49 seats, respectively. |
| | + | |
| | + | Did I mention there’s an Arab block that gained a record 19 seats? This Arab block now has the power to take one of the Jewish blocks over the top. |
| | + | |
| | + | Whether it happens or not, it’s worth repeating: The country accused of genocide against Arabs has empowered Arabs to influence its electoral politics. |
| | + | |
| | + | If you’re into PR, that’s an unbeatable story, especially for a country under a genocidal siege. |
| | + | |
| | + | In recent years, the pro-Israel community has invested enormous resources to counter the genocide libel. It has barely made a dent. |
| | + | |
| | + | That’s the problem with arguments, even the most compelling ones. They’re still arguments. |
| | + | |
| | + | Arabs voting in the Jewish state is not an argument. It’s a story. A real story. The most antisemitic media outlet on the planet has no choice but to tell that story. |
| | + | |
| | + | We don’t know yet where that story goes. |
| | + | |
| | + | In Israeli politics, it’s common to talk about a “Zionist coalition,” a polite way of saying “Arab parties not welcome.” In truth, the presence of Israeli citizens who are against the notion of a Jewish state has always been one of Israel’s most vexing issues. Excluding Arab parties from a governing coalition has simply been the norm. |
| | + | |
| | + | As Tomer Persico writes on X, “Most Zionist parties refuse to see Arab parties as legitimate partners, and most Arab parties refuse to bear responsibility for the governance of a state that is also the nation-state of the Jewish people.” That’s the reality. Hardly anyone thinks Israel can have a stable government that includes Arab parties. |
| | + | |
| | + | At the same time, there’s a huge appetite right now for victory among the two Jewish blocks. |
| | + | |
| | + | Will these Jewish blocks be tempted to reach out to Arab parties? Will they hold firm and keep Arabs out? Will they fight among themselves to get a Zionist majority? If all that fails, will we see another election? |
| | + | |
| | + | These are the burning questions that will hold our attention over the next few days and weeks. |
| | + | |
| | + | But somewhere in a Hollywood café, I wouldn’t be surprised if a writer who likes to dream is pondering a script about a wild and improbable story coming out of Israel. |
| | + | |
| | + | It wouldn’t be the first time. |
