Joseph Raymond McCarthy (November 14, 1908 – May 2, 1957) was a Republican US senator who is best know for exposing Communists who had infiltrated the American government.
Joseph Raymond McCarthy (November 14, 1908 – May 2, 1957) was a Republican US senator who is best known for attempting to expose alleged Communists who had infiltrated the American government.
McCarthy was censured by the Senate for insulting some of his colleagues. A lot of people disliked him for his anti-Communist activities.
He gave a famous speech in Wheeling, WV, where he said the following: "I have here in my hand a list of 205 people that were known to the Secretary of State as being members of the Communist Party, and who, nevertheless, are still working and shaping the policy of the State Department."
McCarthy was censured by the Senate insulting some of his colleagues. Republican Ralph Flanders introduced the censure measure.
