The La Mon House Hotel, near Belfast, was firebombed by the Provisional [[IRA]]on 17 February 1978, as part of the IRA campaign of terrorist murder to force [[Northern Ireland]] into a united [[Ireland]] against the wishes of the majority of its population. Twelve civilans were killed - some burned beyond recognition - and scores were badly wounded when the IRA detonated a massive firebomb at the hotel, attacking events hosted by the Irish Collie Club and the Northern Ireland Junior Motorcycle Club.
