Recent pro-[[democracy]] [[riot]]s have gripped [[Burma (Myanmar)|Burma]], with widespread involvement of the [[Buddhist]] Clergy. The [[monk]]s of Burma are so widely revered in their homeland that any attack on them could spark a national uprising against the dictatorship. Already comparisons have been made to the [[1988 Uprising]] against the Military Junta, but so far the violence seems to have been attempts by the Burmese officials to disperse the growing crowds of protesters. Tougher [[curfew]] laws have been passed and the officials are beginning to crack down, but no end to the conflict seems to be far away. The [[Bush administration]] has reacted by passing [[trade sanctions]] against the tyrannous Burmese regime.
