The Foodborne [[disease]]s Active Surveillance Network (FoodNet) is the principal [[food]]borne [[disease]] component of CDC's Emerging Infections Program (EIP). FoodNet is a collaborative project of the CDC, nine EIP sites (California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, New York, Maryland, Minnesota, Oregon and Tennessee), the USDA, and the FDA. The project consists of active surveillance for [[food]]borne [[disease]]s and related epidemiologic studies designed to help public health officials better understand the epidemiology of [[food]]borne [[disease]]s in the United States. FoodNet provides a network for responding to new and emerging [[food]]borne [[disease]]s of national importance, monitoring the burden of [[food]]borne [[disease]]s, and identifying the sources of specific [[food]]borne [[disease]]s.
