'''Violeta Chamorro''' (1929 - ) was the 48th president of [[Nicaragua]]. She was the first women president in that country and served in office from 1990 until 1997 after defeating [[Sandinista]] chief [[Daniel Ortega]] who had just opened up the country to free elections. It was a surprising outcome to many who expected Ortega to keep power.
