However, they do not support the claim that politicians don't wear beards because of hippie association. The first article says that beards are ambiguous, they could represent hippies OR communists, Marxists, socialists, technophobes, anarchists, pacifists, untrustworthiness or even trustworthyness (like Abe Lincoln). It is the ambiguity that keeps politicians from wearing the beard. The second article says that it is trustworthiness that keeps politicians clean shaven. The beard hides facial expression and studies have shown that people find pictures of beardless people more trustworthy than those of bearded people. Again, thanks for the articles PS, I found them very interesting. However, if we want to keep that statement in the article we need to find a citation that explitly draw the beard-hippie relationship.
