'''Genesis''' is a famous British progressive rock band. Although less successful than their contemporaries [[Pink Floyd]], [[Yes]], and [[Emerson, Lake & Palmer]], they succeeded in attracting and sustaining a larger number of fans. Genesis was led by vocalist [[Peter Gabriel]] for many years; drummer [[Phil Collins]] assumed vocal duties after his departure and turned the band's sound into a more pop-oriented direction.
The band had been on hiatus for many years, but Collins, keyboardist [[Tony Banks]], and bassist/guitarist [[Mike Rutherford]] will be on tour for the summer of 2007. Originally, the classic lineup of Gabriel, guitarist [[Steve Hackett]], Banks, Rutherford, and Collins were supposed to reform but Gabriel and Hackett declined to participate, although both are open to a later reunion.
