BCE is the abbreviated form of the term "Before Common Era", a non-Christ-referencing equivalent of BC (= Before Christ.) Use of the term BCE is rampant on [[Wikipedia]].  It is generally used by those trying to be [[political correctness|politically correct]] and by [[secular humanists]], but has come into broader usage in recent years as American and other Western societies have become more secularized.
