In [[Greek]] myth, '''Ephigineia''' was the daughter of King [[Agamemnon]] of [[Mycenae]] and [[Clytemnestra]]. It is said that Agamemnon fell foul of the goddess Artemis, who stopped the wind, thus delaying the departure of the Greek fleet to [[Troy]]. He was told that he needed to sacrifice Ephigineia, which, after much anguish, he prepared to do. The “Cypria”, a lost epic poem, is said to relate that at the last moment Artemis rescued the girl.
