Darth Vader is the principal villian of [[George Lucas]]'s ''[[Star wars]]'' saga.  The character was ranked as the third greatest villian in american film history by the American Film Insitute.  With his "skull/samurai" helmet and imposing appearence, the character has become synonomous with dictatorial rule.

Darth Vader in the first three ''Star Wars'' movies is the archtypasl villian. After killing millions, only at the end of the movies does his son, [[Luke Skywalker]], change him from his evil ways.

In episodes IV, V, and VI, Vader is the apprentice of Darth Sidious, aka Emperor Palpatine. He was responsible for the genocide of Jedi, and the building of both Death Stars. At the end of Episode VI, his dying act was turning from the Dark Side, with the help of his son, Luke.

Vaders' character was revamped.  He started out as an innocent boy, developing into an almost purely evil character who was utterly corrupted by power.

In the prequel trilogy, Vader started as an innocent young child of about eight. As he grew, he began being seduced by the Dark Side of the Force. When he had a vision that his mother was being tortured, and later when he saw her die, he killed an entire camp of Tusken Raiders. Later, when he had a vision about his wife, Padme, dying in childbirth, he turned to the Dark Side to try to save her. Ironically, his Force choke (Episode III) ended up being part of what killed her.
