Other traditions believe Lucifer was cast out for disobedience, after being told, originally, by god to love god above all else, and subsequiently, after god created man, to love man above all else. In such traditions Lucifer was confused, as he dearly loved God, his creator, and dearly loved man, his brothers and sisters, and could not reconcile the contradictory commandments.
Another tradition states that god is actually the malevolent entity and that Satan/Lucifer wishes only to protect man and make him comfortable.
Of course, these last two beliefs are deemed heretical and blasphemous for they evoke sympathy and gratitude for the Devil, respectively, thus ruining the entire point of his use in christianity, as even though christian's are taught to love their enemies, the church feels that anything other than "righteous" hatred for the devil will lead god's sheep down the wrong path.
Lucifer is usually equated with [[satan]] in Christian tradition. And so, this gives more history of what caused satan's downfall. While 'satan' would be more of the title, 'Lucifer' would be the proper name.
