On October 27th, 2008, Stevens was convicted on 7 counts of corruption, after a highly politicized trial because of his stature as a Senator. While it was supposed that Stevens would lose handily in his re-election attempt,the election remains a toss-up, giving Stevens the chance to be the only convicted felon ever elected to high office.
