Apart from the negative (if not slightly biased) way Opus Dei was portrayed in [[The Da Vinci Code]], the organization itself has received many more criticisms. Included among these are allegations of misogyny, most likely resulting from the basis Opus Dei has in so-called Natural Law, and self-mutilations, which is praticed (admitted only rarely) by certain dedicated Opus Dei supernumeraries.
