There is chromosomal gender (xx or xy) but there are further abnormalities down the pipe that can cause a person to develop a phenotypical gender that is different from their chromosomal gender. One such disorder actually causes phenotypical females who are chromosomal males to grow a penis upon hitting puberty. The point I am making is that there is more to gender than xx and xy.
