Evgeni Malkin is a professional hockey player in the National Hockey League. He currently plays center/wing for the Pittsburgh Penguins organization. In the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, he was chosen 2nd overall.

Early Career
Born in Magnitogorsk, Russia (USSR at the time), Malkin played for the Metallurg Magnitogorsk program in the Russian Superleague, making his debut at the age of 17. Though he was drafted in 2004, he did not join the Penguins' organization until 2006 due to a contract dispute with Metallurg Magnitogorsk. During his time on the international stage, Malkin was named MVP of the 2006 World Junior Championships. Two months later, he joined up with the Russian National Team to play in the 2006 Winter Olympics, playing behind many NHL superstars.

NHL Career
Malkin made his NHL debut in October of 2006. He ended the 2006-2007 season with 33 goals and 88 points, leading all NHL rookies and winning the Calder Memorial Trophy (rookie of the year).

The 2007-2008 season was even kinder to Malkin. Fellow teammate and captain Sidney Crosby missed 28 games due to a high ankle sprain. During that 28 game stretch, Malking scored 44 points and led the Penguins to the Stanley Cup Finals. Malkin completed the season with 106 points, second only to Alexander Ovechkin.

He is currently under contract with the Penguins until the 2013-2014 season and is expected to make $43.5 million.
