According the the [[Bible]], God rained burning hot lava onto the city from the sky, and killed all of the inhabitants because of their [[sin]].  Those who were found to be righteous, [[Lot]] and his family, were told to flee before the city was destroyed and to not look back.  Lot's wife looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt.
