The character's name as a term of abuse
It's odd that people would use this character's name to mean someone a black man who is too submissive, when Uncle Tom actually refused to submit on matters of principle even when his life was at stake. It's as foolish as calling someone a Pollyanna for indulging in wishful thinking, because the heroine of Pollyanna was eminently practical and realistic in her search for the silver lining in the dark clouds that came her way. --Ed Poor Talk 16:00, 2 April 2009 (EDT)
