United States General George Marshall had Chiang agree on a four-month ceasefire in Manchuria in 1946. In this time, the Soviets trained the communist troops and sent them fine weaponry. Plus, because Chiang's finest generals often were red spies, they reported battle plans to Mao Tse-tung. Due to this, he triumphed over Chiang and declared the People's Republic of China on October 1,1949 in Tiananmen Square to a crowd of fanatic reds.
