:So, Ev Dirksen voted against the coalition he led when he and the Republicans voted for the [[Civil Rights]] act of 1965? No mention of [[Bluedog]]s, just "It continued as a potent force until the 1990s when the southern Democrats were replaced by southern Republicans. It no longer exists." Nowhere is the term Boll Weavil? [[User:RobSmith|Rob Smith]] 16:18, 11 September 2009 (EDT)

::yes, Dirkesen and the Republicans broke with the southern Democrats on civil rights. there was no coalition in operation on that issue. Blue dogs are a more recent development and don't actually form a coalition with the GOP--they are a caucus inside the Democratic party. Good point re Boll Weavils--they should be included and I'll work on that. 17:32, 11 September 2009 (EDT)
