'''Chicano''' is a term used to describe native-born [[American]]s of [[Mexican]] ancestry, as opposed to Mexican nationals living in the [[United States]]. The usage of this self-identifiable ethnic term was popular in the 1960's and 1970's. Not all Mexican Americans, Latinos or Hispanics prefer this term, while the term is connected with US-born Mexican communities of the Southwest US developed its own sub-culture apart from the country of [[Mexico]] since the mid 1800's.
