:I am about to post a revision. People here are advocating that the distinction between scientific and common usage be added, so I am doing that. I am trying to be accurate on who makes the distinction, and what the distinction is.

Avoiding the philosophers here would be helpful, certainly. I really think that we need to leave out the current examples in your revision. I don't really want to do the editing personally because i hate edit wars, but I'd love to comment on it here, and post edits with consensus.
