I am not named after [[Ian Smith]], PM of Rhodesia; I'm named after my grandfather Ian Quatermaine Smyth. When my family left Africa on December 3rd 1980, my family had lived in Africa for exactly 300 years, from 1680 to 1980. My mother's family were Dutch South Africans, Boers or Afrikaners. My father's family were initially English and moved to what was then the Province of New York in 1698 and left for England in 1783 with other Loyalists. In 1901 they moved to Durban, South Africa. | I am not named after [[Ian Smith]], PM of Rhodesia; I'm named after my grandfather Ian Quatermaine Smyth.
