The Boland Amendment was an amendment to the Defense Appropriation Act of 1983, proposed by Edward Boland, a Democrat from Massachussetts. This amendment prohibited the US government from providing funds to the [[Contras]] to overthrow the Sandinista government of [[Nicaragua]].
The discovery that the United States provided funds to the Contras in violation of this law triggered the [[Iran-Contra Affair]].
