The Hyde Amendment, Passed in 1976 has prohibited federal funds from being used to provide abortions, and title X money, which is of contentious debate in American Politics, has been sited by most economists and public health experts as saving 3 dollars for every dollar spent by providing affordable health care and cancer screening in low income neighborhoods. While heralded by both Conservatives and Liberals when the Hyde Amendment and Title X passed under the Nixon Administration, the New Conservatives have made a heavy push to restrict or eliminate Abortion and Contraceptive rights.
