The Beltway or Insterstate 495 is a 6 to 8 lane highway which surrounds Washington DC. At no point does the Beltway actually enter Washington DC. It loops through Suburban [[Maryland]] and Northern [[Virginia]]. The Beltway is an extremely busy roadway, used by tourists, commuters and interstate travellers. During rush hour it is not uncommon for the Beltway to slow to thirty miles per hour or less due to the factors such as traffic volume, accidents or weather related delays. The phrase "Inside the Beltway" refers to political matters related to the Capitol in Washington DC. Most governmental agencies and buildings are located inside the Beltway in Maryland, DC or Virginia.
