It is common to say "Russia" when referring to the CIS or the Soviet Union. Probably this is because both the latter have been dominated by Russia. The Bachman quote seems to be of interest only in terms of [[gotcha politics]], kind of like the flap over Sarah Palin's [[see Russia from Alaska]] remarks, which have been widely misquoted '''and''' taken out of context.
If we mention Bachmann's Soviet Union quote, we need a sidebar article showing what political capital her opponents have made out of what was (at worst) a slip of the tongue. --[[User:Ed Poor|Ed Poor]] <sup>[[User talk:Ed Poor|Talk]]</sup> 13:22, 19 August 2011 (EDT)
