The guy above highlighted it pretty damn well. You may as well call fanclubs or role playing game groups religions if you include atheism. Evolution and science itself exist separate from an atheist's lack of belief. Many people are still religious but believe evolution is correct. They are christian, catholic, etc etc. Because they believe a god did it, somewhere, somehow. But the more you delve into science, the less likely a god becomes. Science itself is not the domain of atheists. It is the domain of those who understand a small bit of the universe and learn more every day. Eventually we may find the origin of the universe. But its not a god.

P.S. Here's another way of thinking about it. What if you don't believe in Christanity or any other religion. And then you also reject Atheism as well. You don't believe evolution, don't attend any Atheist conventions, etc. What are you then? Nothing? Yes. We have a term for that. It's called Atheism. Without Theism. Without Religion. Yes it's true that many atheists share beliefs on topics, but that is ultimately meaningless as those things still aren't essential to what atheism really is and what it is to be an atheist.
