Stretford
Stretford is a town in southern Lancashire. It is 4 miles south-west of Manchester city centre and the Manchester electoral ward Hulme adjoins the town to the north-east. Sale sits across the River Mersey in Cheshire to the south. As of the 2011 Census, Stretford had a population of 46,910, an increase of nearly 10,000 from its 2001 population of 37,455.
Stretford was known largely as an agricultural village in the 19th century, being nicknamed Porkhampton and Black Pudding Junction for the number of pigs it supplied to Manchester market.[1]
Stretford is home to Trafford Town Hall, the meeting place of Trafford Council. Old Trafford, the home ground for Manchester United F.C. (ranked by Forbes in 2023 and 2024 as the 2nd most valuable soccer club internationally) is in Stretford as is Old Trafford Cricket Ground, the home ground of Lancashire County Cricket Club.
