Supreme Court 2023 Term
The U.S. Supreme Court October 2023 Term (2023-24) agreed, as of March 15, 2024, to hear only 62 cases during this term, one of which it dismissed. Only 60 cases were scheduled for oral argument.
The Court has been slow to issue decisions: only 20 out of 61 by May 9, 2024.
As of June 24, 2024, with only three court days remaining in the month (June 26, 27, and 28),[1] the Court still had 15 major cases. The Court did grant a major transgender petition for cert to the Sixth Circuit, which upheld a ban on transgender treatments on minors by Tennessee.
The last two decades have been less productive on the Court than earlier periods, but this term is way below even prior years. For example, between the Court's 2007 and 2022 October Terms, it averaged 74.3 cases annually.
