Basically, it was beer-drinking boomers and children of the 1960s sexual revolution in the United States military treating local Iranian women and girls like hookers that caused the Iranian Islamic Revolution that kicked them all out.

A similar thing happened in Cuba in 1959, only the US military wasn't so directly involved. In that case, it was more American tourists, party animals, and hellraisers. Now you can blame communism or the KGB to a certain extent for exploiting the situation, but the revolution's root cause was Americans having no respect for the local culture and customs.
