Prevalence of cases of certain types

This is a helpful source. In 2011, there were 289,252 cases filed in US District Courts, including 32306 contract actions, 78175 tort actions, 73749 personal injury actions, 37020 civil rights actions, 53611 prisoner petitions, and 2829 bankruptcy actions. I'll take a look and see if there are state statistics, as the federal statistics might overrepresent personal injury actions (which would usually fall into diversity jurisdiction) and civil rights cases won't be found in state court (as civil rights cases arise under 42 USC 1983). That's a fascinating set of statistics. I'll include it now--Andy Schlafly 00:17, 13 October 2012 (EDT)
