Talk:Christianity in North America
Leif Ericson was a Christian. He may have been the first to bring Christianity to North America since he arrived in North America around 1,000 A.D.
"Leif Erikson, Leiv Eiriksson or Leif Ericson[note 1] (c. 970 – c. 1020) was a Norse explorer from Iceland.[6] He is thought to be the first known European to have set foot on continental North America (excluding Greenland), approximately half a millennium before Christopher Columbus.[7][8] According to the sagas of Icelanders, he established a Norse settlement at Vinland, which is usually interpreted as being coastal North America. There is ongoing speculation that the settlement made by Leif and his crew corresponds to the remains of a Norse settlement found in Newfoundland, Canada, called L'Anse aux Meadows and which was occupied c. 1000. Later archaeological evidence suggests that Vinland may have been the areas around the Gulf of St. Lawrence and that the L'Anse aux Meadows site was a ship repair station....
Leif and his crew travelled from Greenland to Norway in 999. Blown off course to the Hebrides and staying for much of the summer, he arrived in Norway and became a hirdman of King Olaf Tryggvason. He also converted to Christianity and was given the mission of introducing the religion to Greenland."[1]Conservative (talk) 11:52, 14 July 2020 (EDT)
- Hi Conservative. Sure, feel free to update the page accordingly by adding that source of information along with any other info you may have. I think you would need a source other than Wikipedia, though. It wouldn't change Columbus' contribution to the New World, of course; but it is interesting info. - It may be hard to know what Christian influence Ericson had on North America. So I decided to merely put it on the talk page. I don't have time to research this matter. Conservative (talk) 12:05, 14 July 2020 (EDT)
I understand. Thanks for your efforts on this and other articles, Conservative. One of the purpose of articles like this is to spur and then to track the year-on-year growth of Christianity in each of these regions. We want Christianity to cross 3 Billion adherents soon. The Bible says "A large population is the King's Honor" (Prov 14:28), and we want it to ever redound to the Glory and Honor of our King that He is worshiped by so many.
