Huey Long was a racist. He lifted the poll tax cause it basically amounted to two days' pay for poor whites in the Depression Era. It had nothing to do with promoting civil rights for blacks. RobSFree Kyle! 01:35, October 23, 2021 (EDT)

The Roosevelt Myth has a good chapter on Long. It is said that Long did not believe FDR went far enough, and some old timers who lived through that time say that FDR, in fact, saved capitalism.
