It is my understanding that Matthew was reaching out to Jews, not necessarily that it was written to the early Christian Church. It appears most of the Gospels are written with the goal of spreading the Good news. Learn together 19:47, 11 July 2007 (EDT)

Dear Brothers and Sisters, can we state St. Matthew the Apostle wrote first here?

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Our Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for all the great work you do at Conservapedia for the Cause of Christ.
I am a fellow Christian from India. I just inserted an edit on the main article page based on the work of Church Father Irenaeus that Saint Matthew the Apostle wrote the Gospel first. He mentions the order of the Four Gospels, and gives us rough clues as to when the Gospel was written. Hope you like it!
