The "overlooked third category" comment suggests a misunderstanding of American political history. The fundamentalists of the 1920s were reformers, progressives, southern Democrats, and segregationists. In the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s, they didn't fit into either political party, so they dropped out of politics. There was no "religious right" until the 1970s. PeterKa 12:13, 22 January 2014 (EST)
