Removing unencyclopediac content

I saw that some encyclopediac material was added back here.

1. [1] talks about "Medieval allegorical interpretation," but the contribution talks about it in the present tense. 2. [2] links to [3], where a professor said it would be possible. 3. The bible does not specify a whale. 4. The 9 inch gullet is for what type of whale. 5. This is a conservative encyclopedia. If people wanted to learn about people who think the Bible is an allegory or mythology, they would go to wikipedia.

Before adding the content back, I advise:

1. Let's find better sources. 2. Let's carefully word the contributions. 3. Let's be careful not to offend. 4. Let's explain why you think he was in the belly of a whale before attempting to demonstrate that it was impossible.

==Interpretations== If this event actually occurred, it must have been a miracle, as the gullet of a whale is only about nine inches in diameter, and it would not be physically possible for a whale to swallow a human being whole.<ref>http://www.edwardtbabinski.us/whales/shore_whaling_industry.html</ref> Moreover, bodies of squid recovered from the stomachs of whales show corrosion from digestive juices. Some people think of the story of Jonah and the whale as an [[allegorical|allegory]] prefiguring of the three days between the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. <ref> http://www.answers.com/topic/typology-theology</ref> <ref> http://www.ctsfw.edu/library/files/pb/1253</ref>

Actually if you read [[4]] carefully all the way through, including the bit after the professor's letter, you'll see that it says precisely the opposite - that it would not be possible. That was what I tried to put in the article. There is no problem, IMHO and in the opinion of a large number of theologians, in squaring Jesus' words with the allegorical interpretation of Jonah as prefiguring the three days between Christ's death and resurrection.--Britinme 21:02, 12 May 2007 (EDT)

Added a basic structure

I have added a basic structure. I am unclear if some of the sections (Challenges from secular humanists, atheists, and agnostics) belong on this Encyclopedia, but assuming they do, I believe it is important to only use notable sources, especially when disputing the facticity of Jonah surviving inside a great fish, and to use an appropriate tone. Challenges from humanists, atheists and agnostics are necessarily not going to be Biblical but based on the likelihood of a human being a) being swallowed by a whale or great fish and b) surviving under that circumstance. The link used is perfectly respectable from that point of view.--Britinme 10:11, 17 May 2007 (EDT)
