Talk:Merit Scholarships
From Conservapedia
I think it's important to mention the crazy scholarships that liberals give out! Like the left-handed ones or the David Letterman/Ayn Rand ones!
Or would it necessitate a "Liberal scholarships" and "Need based scholarships" page cross-referenced with this page?

- actually there are left handed conservatives and Ayn Rand is very anti-liberal (and this is not a scholarship). I rephrased the article to reflect the actual debate that is going on. Left-handed and family-name scholarships exist but are not merit based. The Letterman award required high quality work in "written work, research, audio, video, graphics and film." - Granted, but the idea of a "left handedness" scholarship is fairly liberal, based off of a genetic predisposition rather than actual work. For a more serious example, there are the scholarships from LGBT groups (who claim it's all genetic) and other racist selectionist associations that are essentially "affirmative action."
- And my original reference to Ayn Rand (not here, but the page) was that she was atheistic. And wouldn't "high quality" work determined by a liberals be "very liberal?!" -MadShell 11:29, 14 December 2009 (EST)
- the "left handed" scholarship at an obscure little college (like the family scholarships at Harvard) were donated by alumni, probably pretty conservative ones; they were NOT designed by the college officials. Followers of Ayn Rand hate liberals more than Conservapedia does. The media people have a very clear idea of quality in say a video or audio production, and I believe Fox has the same standards as CBS. In this case, Letterman endowed a scholarship at his alma mater for people who excel in his profession, which is the sort of thing rich conservatives also do.RJJensen 16:32, 14 December 2009 (EST)
