Putin: the KGB Genius? As I continue working on the Putin book, fighting my way through a jungle of misinformation and disinformation. It is sometimes exhausting and just plain irritating to read the Western political priesthood on Russia and Putin, lies piled upon falsehood piled upon delusion. And lots of books. On the other hand, I have to wade knee-deep in pseudo intellectual shit to get an understanding to the size and extent of one of history’s greatest exercises in demonization, jingoism and xenophobic, if not racist nationalism. Oddly enough this is why Snyder calls the “politics of eternity” in which national leaders manufacture a myth of permanent threat, convincing their citizens that a fundamental evil civilization is plotting their demise. Of course, Timothy Snyder thinks that society is Russia fanning the flames of hatred, when in fact it is the US and it allies. Frye, Weiss, and Gessen all sing in harmony, along with a choir of millions. In this eschatology, Russia is Hell. and Putin is Satan. To argue otherwise is heresy and deserves the rack....
