Great Britain came about with the "Act of Union with Scotland" in 1707, although the name had been suggested by James I a century earlier. "The Act of Union with Ireland" in 1701 instituted the formation of the United Kingdom. It may be simplistic, but the term "Such-and-such of England" has been used in lists for centuries.

Am I quibbling?

Victoria was the last of the Hanovarians. Saxe-Coburg Gotha succeeded with Edward VII. And there were no "UK Monarchs" before 1801!! AlanE 18:32, 1 June 2007 (EDT)

I find the "By Time" list redundant. It tells one absolutely nothing that the dynastic list doesn't. I didn't want to tread on any toes by deleting it, though. (And I will be checking Lady Jane Grey's status in between chores today.)AlanE 21:24, 1 June 2007 (EDT)

Lady Jane is accepted by all references I have so there she is. The only problem is no matter what I do I can't get the finished list to be a true down-the-page list. Help!! AlanE 22:32, 1 June 2007 (EDT) The British Monarchy website considers Tudor and "England" and Stuart and after "UK". I'll go with that, but is there anyone out there who agrees? G'day Scott: I edited the list to include dates for some of the Tudors, and put in poor Lady Jane. For some reason, they will not appear as a list (one below the other) in the "published" page. Instead we have Henry VIII appearing beside Henry VII, and so on. And who can I go to to have categories altered? Yesterday I did an article on King Stephen who died about 650 years before the UK existed, and it was still changed to "UK Monarchs". I fixed some of the formatting but I am unhappy with the title, after all some monarchs had a different title for their Scottish position. I would also like to see the English monarchs extended back to Alfred the Great.

As you can tell from the above, I am VERY unhappy with the title. The should be "of England" until at earliest the Stuarts. (Which is what the "official" royalty does. Numbering does not start until the Conquest. It never has. pre-Conquest has problems...during my lifetime the title of first king has changed. But we will get there. I am busy doing articles on the actual monarchs these days (plus sidetracks) The Scottish problem only starts with James I. A separate list can be done for Scotland. Thank you for the formatting.
