A terrarium (plural: terrariums or terraria) is a container in which small land animals, plants, or both are kept and observed.[1] It is often used for plants requiring high humidity. The most common use is for slow-growing plants. A Terrarium often has glass sides, allowing light to enter, but preventing (at least some) moisture from leaving.

Etymology

This word is the result of combining two Latin words. "terra" means "earth" and "arium" references a "place or receptacle."[2]
